CEO of Gujarat , Mr. Narendra Modi, Attends National Maritime Day with a Vision For Future : Gujarat Will be The Ship Building Hub by 2015
National Maritime day was celebrated in different parts of the country and no where in the nation, the celebration was as high profile as in Gujarat.
“CEO of Gujarat”, Chief Minister Narendra Modi understands the importance of shipping and under his leadership, Gujarat has made rapid strides in Ports, Shipyards and Shipbuilding sector.
National Maritime day was celebrated enthusiastically in Gujarat at it coincides with Foundation Day of The Gujarat Maritime Board. Terming Gujarat ports as the "gateways to the country", Chief Minister Narendra Modi on said on 5th of April that the state is poised to become the ship-building centre of the country by 2015.
Gujrat Maritime Board has secured private investment in port infrastructure to the tune of Rs 17,000 crores till date while investment commitments were expected to go up to Rs 20,000 crore by 2011.
Narendra Modi said the profit development has got a massive thrust in terms of creating infrastructure and awareness to achieve maritime excellence in last seven years.
Chief Minister proudly branded the first voyage of Indian Ship SS loyalty as a fillip to nationalism “"The voyage of first Indian steamship S S Loyalty marked the rise of nationalism.” He paid tribute of seafarer and shipping community of Gujrat

Gujrat always had a very rich maritime tradition with the discovery of some of the ports dating back to harappan civilization . IN the recent past Gujarati seafarers and business men have worked hard to transform Gujarat as a vibrant Maritime state.
Gujarat also has development goals for new ports at Dholera, Khambhat, Sutrapada, Mahuva, Bansi Borsi, Simar, Mithi virdi, Bedi, Maroli, Positra and Porbandar, he said adding it will generate large-scale employment opportunities for the youth here.
