National Maritime day seminar on solving the manning crisis on 3rd April 2008 in Mumbai

A Time to reflect on growth, roadblocks and solutions
 
After the National Maritime day and Merchant navy week begun off on a high profile note with inauguration by The Prime Minister, National Maritime Day Celebration Committee laid up elaborate plans for celebration to popularize merchant navy in different parts of the country.
Laying out elaborate plans at a press conference in Mumbai on 3rd April 2008, Mr. Amitava Banerjee, Chairman, National Maritime day Celebration Committee ( Mumbai), said “  One of the objectives of the National Maritime Day Celebration Committee is to emphasise the fact that we are a seafaring nation. School children are the prime target of this effort. The Committee members visit to various parts of the country is to encourage children to take up maritime careers,''
A seminar on “ Solving The Manning crisis in Maritime Industry” was organized in Mumbai on 3rd April 2008 at the SCI Auditorium. Prof V.N. Rajasekhran Pillai, Vice Chancellor, IGNOU was the chief guest at the function and seminar was attended prominent persons of the shipping fraternity including Ms. Kiran Dhingra, DG Shipping; Mr S. Hajara, CMD, SCI; Mr Amitava Banerjee, Chairman, NDMC ( Mumbai); Capt S. Bhardwaj, VC, AMET University; Mr A Devli, CEO, Shreyas Shipping; capt. M Saggi, NA, Govt. of India and Capt MC Yadav, FOSMA.
Cadets of training Ship Chanakaya and MERI, Mumbai presented a guard of honour to the guests and seminar began with traditional lighting of lamps.
After the welcome address by Mr UC Grover, SCI, and Chairman of Seminar Committee, various speakers and participants touched upon some of the very relevant topics and solutions to overcome the manning crisis.
The Director, P & A of SCI, Mr K Gupta said,” Indian Shipping professionals have the wherewithal to learn and develop India as a major maritime nation. We have to provide a platform to help them evolve more. The evolution will bring about a positive image of the shipping and more & more people will be encouraged to join shipping.”
