IMO Sec General Mr. Mitropoulos has said in many of his speeches that Shipping needs to tell a good story about itself. After all, if we don’t talk good of ourselves, who will? That was the theme of our essay competition ,“ Spread The Good News.”

Over the last 3 months, Proud To Be Mariners essay competition and its topics made the participants dig out positive contributions. Emails were sent to thousands of ships and training institutes and even the judges were overwhelmed with such beautiful gems from Seasoned Seafarers on Board ships, Their Wives, Faculty members and students.

Proud To Be Mariners” Essay Competition was intended to provide a platform for positive and pro active discussions among Maritime Community.

The Essay Competition Prizes were sponsored by Wallem Ship Management and Mitsui OSK Lines. Wallem is an 105 year old ship management company that evokes strong loyalty among its ranks and Capt Navin Passey, MD said,” As a Ship Management Organization, we make conscientious efforts to boost the morale of our employees as well present a strong case for shipping as a career option for today’s youth. And Our sponsoring the prizes were Part of our effort to instill a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction among seafarers of Wallem as well in whole of Indian Maritime Community.”
Mitsui OSK is one of the largest employers of Indian Officers and Capt Abhijit Chattopadhyay of MOLMI said,” In HR terms, these exercises can be termed as engaging the talent. More than the prizes, the procedure of sitting down and writing good things about their life and career is a reward in itself for the participants.”
Essays were sorted out and graded as per their word flow, grammar, relevancy, originality and grasp of topic. Essays were marked in each category and then totaled. Scores from different judges were averaged and final winners were decided. Some selected entries were prehosted on www.marinersnetwork.com for comments and reading by site users. All The Participants who submitted their entries has been given One Year Free Subscription of The Marine World.
It was really tough to decide the winners and that’s why honored Judges decided to award first prize Jointly To 3 Participants who will get Cash prize of INR 7000 each and their cheques have been mailed to them. Second prize was given Jointly to 3 persons with cash award of INR 4000 each and Third Prize was shared by 3 Persons each winning an award of INR 2500.
